This Privacy Policy explains how DipWatch ("DipWatch," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the DipWatch macOS menu-bar app, its related services, or this website. DipWatch is operated by an independent developer in Canada.
1. Information We Collect
Account and sign-in information
A DipWatch account is required to use the app. You sign in with Apple or Google. We receive and store an account identifier, the sign-in provider, and the email address or display name made available by that provider. Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your personal email address.
Products and price tracking
When you add an Amazon product, we process the link and related product and price information, including the product identifier, title, image, marketplace, currency, current price, and price history. We also store the products you track and information needed to manage tracking and price alerts. Some general product and price information may be shared across accounts to provide the service; it is not associated with your identity or private tracked-product list.
Clipboard and device storage
When you open Add Product, the app checks the current macOS clipboard for an Amazon link. It does not continuously monitor the clipboard, and a detected link is sent to DipWatch only if you choose to add it. DipWatch also stores limited preferences, offline data, sign-in and purchase session data on your device. If you enable alerts, macOS may store local notifications that contain product names and prices.
Purchases and credits
If you buy credits, Apple and RevenueCat process the purchase flow. We receive information such as the account, product, transaction, amount, currency, credit amount, and purchase time. Apple handles your payment details.
Usage, analytics, and diagnostics
We use Firebase Analytics to understand app usage and Crashlytics to diagnose crashes and other failures. These services may receive account identifiers and standard app, device, network, and diagnostic information. We also retain service logs and limited usage data to operate DipWatch, prevent abuse, and investigate failures.
Website information
This website currently has no intentional advertising pixels, analytics scripts, contact forms, or non-essential cookies. The hosting provider may still process ordinary technical request information in its server logs.
2. How We Use Information
- To authenticate you and maintain your account.
- To retrieve Amazon product details, monitor prices, maintain price history, and send local price-drop notifications.
- To process credit purchases, maintain balances, prevent duplicate grants, and provide support.
- To understand reliability and improve the app using aggregated product and operational data.
- To detect misuse, protect the service, comply with law, and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell your personal information, use your tracked products for targeted advertising, or build an advertising profile from your shopping behavior. We do share information with service providers as described below when necessary to provide DipWatch.
3. Service Providers and Other Disclosures
DipWatch uses the following services to operate the app. Their handling of information is also governed by their own privacy policies and terms:
- Google Firebase: Account authentication, data storage, backend processing, analytics, and crash reporting.
- Apple and Google: Sign-in services. Apple also provides StoreKit and the Mac App Store payment flow.
- RevenueCat: Purchase and receipt validation.
- A third-party data provider: Retrieves public Amazon product details. We send product URLs and receive product details such as title, image, price, and currency.
- Amazon: When you open an Amazon product link, Amazon receives the request.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or DipWatch, to investigate fraud or security issues, or as part of a merger, financing, sale, or other transfer of the service. We do not share information with advertisers.
4. Retention and Deletion
You can request account deletion from Settings in the app or by contacting us. A user-requested deletion removes your account, tracked products, price-drop history, usage records, and app-owned local cache and notification data on a best-effort basis.
Some information remains after deletion. Shared product and price history may remain. Purchase records may be retained for accounting, tax, fraud, and transaction support. A salted one-way hash of your sign-in identity and limited fraud-prevention history may also be retained to prevent repeated welcome-credit abuse. Unspent purchased credits may be restored if the same provider identity returns; free welcome credits are not restored.
Acknowledged price-drop events are scheduled for deletion after 30 days. Unacknowledged events may remain until they are acknowledged or your account is deleted. Accounts with no purchases and no activity for 180 days may be automatically deleted. Analytics, crash reporting, RevenueCat, Apple, Google, Amazon, our data provider, and hosting records are retained according to the applicable provider's policies and controls.
5. Your Choices and Rights
- Turn off local notifications in macOS System Settings.
- Stop tracking or remove products in the app.
- Sign out or request account deletion in Settings.
- Contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or other privacy help.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information, including rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of it. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. We do not currently offer an in-app control to opt out of Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics; you may contact us about a request, and certain diagnostic collection is necessary for operating the service.
6. Security and International Processing
We use access controls, authenticated requests, platform security protections, and the security features of our service providers to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Our providers may process information in countries other than Canada, including the United States.
7. Children
DipWatch is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy when DipWatch, its providers, or applicable requirements change. The effective date above shows when the current version took effect. Continued use of DipWatch after an update means you have had an opportunity to review the revised Policy.
